Byron William House

Byron William House

June 6, 1963 – March 12, 2018

Byron House passed away on Monday after a long bout with illness and pain. He was surrounded by love from family and friends at his side. He fought hard, in typical Byron fashion, but after 42 days in the hospital, his only wish was to go home, spend time with his wife, Lisa, pet his dogs, and eat ice cream. In life, Byron loved decorating for Christmas, working hard, starting things on fire and/or blowing them up, building really anything, and doing absolutely absurd things. He was willing to share a story and his common-sense wit with others (usually with a s*#@-eating grin on his face). He was strongest person that many of us have ever known. Our hearts will remain full with the love and laughter that Byron shared with us all. Byron never wanted a funeral. Instead, according to his wishes, a party will be held in his honor. Arrangements for the party have been made so that all can celebrate his life. The party is scheduled for Saturday, April 14th. Please contact one of Byron’s family members for full details.

Memorials can be sent in Byron’s name to CAMP MITIOG c/o of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.

Our heart goes out to Lisa and all Byrons friends who will miss for many years to come. The nicest we can leave others is a good memory of great times shared by those we have loved. Byron was such a person. His care for others and the caring he showed to everyone will not be forgotten. Byron was an amazing guy. The things he did despite the obstacles he faced spoke volumes. His sense of humor was unforgettable as well. Rest your soul – Byron.

YO, Byron — I don’t think I ever was around you when it wasn’t FUN! Although I didn’t know you as well as Botten or Nowatzke, I was always ready to join in and enjoy life the way you enjoyed it. That’s how I will remember you always, with a smile!

Lisa, my heart aches for u! Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Byron, I can tell that u two just “fit” together! I know how hard it is to lose a spouse, so I am here if u need an ear, shoulder, or whatever! Love u girl and will pray for comfort and peace as u go through this difficult time. It doesn’t get any easier, but it does get tolerable!

Lisa, I’m very sorry for your loss. I worked with Byron for five years at Lemay. He was always full of laughter and joy. He was a wonderful role model to me. He touched so many lives in such a remarkable way. I was torn apart to hear the news. One of my good memories of him is he would always race me to the door at work and sure would win! Byron never let his wheelchair get in the way of his happiness, you would forget he was even in a wheelchair sometimes! He was very kind and always gave me such good advice like a father figure. I’ll never forget him and I will keep praying for you and your family. If you ever need anything please don’t hesitate to ask. Losing someone is very hard something I have gone through too many times. Surround yourself with the good, joyful memories.

I was never privileged to meet Byron, but the words from a dear friend brought him to life for me. Grace Stean, my friend and his, shared special moments of her life as it was touched by Bryon. She expressed how he was her mentor at camp, a loyal friend over the many years, a loving family man and a defender of those who live with disabilities. Just by her words I know he was a very special man who lived his life to the fullest. I wish I had met him so I could thank him for all he did and for being such a wonderful friend to our mutual friend. Please accept my heartfelt prayers for peace and healing.
