Forast Hehn

Funeral service for Forast V. Hehn, 99, Lawrence, KS, will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Lawrence Free Methodist Church.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. at the McLouth Cemetery.  Mr. Hehn died on May 1, 2009 at the Care Cottage in Lawrence. 

Mr. Hehn was born on February 14, 1910 in McLouth, KS, the son of Valentine and Helen Jane Edmonds Hehn. He moved to Lawrence in 1947.

After graduating from high school in 1928, he attended Lawrence Business College. He then worked in Washington D.C., as a stenographer and steno typist for the US Government.  He later was transferred to Cairo, Illinois and worked until he returned to Kansas to farm and work as a carpenter.  He worked in the construction business until he retired in 1972.  Some of his many projects was helping build the Campanile on Memorial Drive at the University of Kansas, Hallmark Cards and Lawrence High School. 

Mr. Hehn was a member of Free Methodist Church, Senior Citizen Club, Autumn Club, AARP and Knife and Fork Club and the Local Carpenters Union where he served as treasurer.

He married Thelma Ridgway on June 28, 1947 in McLouth, KS.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include one daughter, Barbara Purdon and her husband, Mike, Ozawkie, KS; three grandchildren, Kathryn Ann Purdon, Erin Elizabeth Purdon,  and  Michael Scott Purdon. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven siblings, Louise Osborn, Beulah Hehn, Homer Hehn, Roy Hehn, Dale Hehn, Irene Dunkle and Allen Hehn.

The family will greet friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials in his name to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Rehabilitation and Hospice Care for the Care Cottage or to Lawrence Free Methodist Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
