Arthur Winchell

Funeral service for Arthur Tryon Winchell, 90, Lawrence, will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  He died April 27, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1919, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Guy Arthur and Frances Russell Winchell.

Mr. Winchell was a graduate of Liberty Memorial High School.  He was a veteran of WW II and served in the U.S. Army Air Force.  He was a superintendent at Kansas Public Service Company where he worked for 47 years.  He was a member of the Dorsey-Liberty Post #14, American Legion, Lawrence, the Acacia Masonic Lodge #9 for 51 years, and was a lifetime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  He was also a member of the University Bridge Club.

He married Mary Louise Noble on July 17, 1943, in Coffeyville, KS.  She preceded him in death on March 27, 1991.  He married Viola Gordon Oswald on June 25, 1993, in Lawrence, KS.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Molamphy and husband, Dennis, Wichita; a son, Robert, Van Meter, IA; and five grandchildren, David, Mark, Sarah, John and Joseph.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
